Printmaking adventures:

-Photo Etching Workshop: the course everyone's everyone is clamoring for. An intaglio plate is formed utilizing UV light to create the image on a solar plate, which is then inked and transferred to the printmaking paper to create an evocative and exciting work of art.

A two day workshop that takes you from creating the image on the solar plate from a prepared transparency to learning how to ink the plate to create a hand-pulled print. The prints are inked with oil-based etching inks. Both the single and the double exposure techniques are taught to create four unique plates. No printmaking experience necessary. Assistance and guidance with preparing the transparencies is provided.

$195 + $50 materials fee
Winter 2012 sessions: February 25 & 26

-Monotype Mayhem - a 'one of a kind' course, unleash your creativity by using smooth plates and your imagination to create non-edition prints.

Considered the most painterly of printmaking methods, monotypes are made by 'painting' an image onto a smooth plate and then transferring this image onto paper using the pressure of an etching press. What distinguishes the monotype from a painting are the textures and effects created by the trnasfer process and the pressure of the printing. What separates it from other printmaking processes is that it produces a one of a kind image with no possibility of edition work. The subtractive, additive and transfer methods of creating monotype will all be taught.

Tuesdays, 4 week sessions, 10am-4pm, $250 + $60 materials fee
Weekend session: March 24 & 25, 2012, $160 + $30 materials fee

-Illuminating Alumigraphs: also termed foilography, beautifully detailed and delicate images are created using plexigrass plates, found objects and aluminum foil.

A wonderful introduction to the art of printmaking, alumigraphs use found objects and materials layered underneath aluminum foil to create richly textured plates which are then inked with oil-based etching inks and run through an etching press to create unique hand-pulled prints. Perfect for developing a series of related prints using 'ghost' imagery. All materials provided.
